We decided to spend one more night at Smack Bayou. We rowed the dinghy all the way to the back of the bayou to explore. Coleen wanted to see the sunken boat. Turns out it's not a catamaran after all - hard to tell what kind of boat it was - but it was big. It was nice to get off our boat for a while and get some exercise.
Our other neighbor paddled over in his kayak to say hello. DJ is a young fellow cruising alone on some sort of an older 37 footer. He had sailed to the Caribbean and back a few times and offered to show me some hurricane holes for Florida's West Coast. He offered to take his fast dinghy across the bay and get ice for me so I wouldn't have to leave. I may take him up on that and try to stay out one more day. It's so much cooler on board at anchor than at the marina - and also a much smoother ride.
We had grilled steaks & zucchini, & rice for dinner and I let Coleen watch a movie on the DVD player. I sat outside reading and fishing after dinner, but as usual didn't catch anything. One day I may need to get serious about this fishing and figure it out. Still it was very peaceful until the wind died down and these little annoying gnats came out.
I've been running the engine for 30 minutes a day and so far that seems to be enough to keep the batteries going . I decided to quit being so careful with our power consumption and use what we need. I've also been sleeping better at anchor. I didn't even get up to check last night.
