Jamaica Cay
I was finally feeling a bit better and decided it was time to go exploring. We invited DJ to join us aboard the Glass Slipper and enjoyed a lazy downwind jib sail to Jamaica Cay, a mere 6 miles south. Our guidebook described it as “separated from the mainland Acklins, Jamaica Cay provides some tiny beaches for landing and poking around. It is a beautiful tropical isle with large prominent casuarina and pretty, clear water for a cool swim on a yellow sand beach.” Sounded like my kind of place.
We arrived around 10:30 am and were soon in the hammock on the beach. We enjoyed a couple of hours being lazy on the beach, before heading back to the Glass Slipper for lunch and our sail back. Of course our sail back was upwind, so it was going to be a lot of tacking. It was a lovely day and we weren’t really in a hurry as it would be ok to arrive back in the anchorage after dark. Still at some point we decided our time on the island was much less time than it took to sail there and back. When the afternoon squall rolled through, we tucked in two reefs and kept going, in a stiff wind and heavy downpour. It was short lived and soon the sun was shining once again. We arrived back at the anchorage shortly before sunset finishing up another great day in the Bahamas.
