It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas aboard the Glass Slipper

Our Charlie Brown tree
Last year since we spent most of December traveling from Sanford, Fl to Titusville, FL, up the St John’s River and then down the Intercoastal Waterway, our Christmas tree had to wait until Dec 23rd.  This year Coleen talked me into putting it up the day after Thanksgiving.  Of course the tree, lights, wreath, and other decorations are stored in the deepest bowels of the boat, since they are rarely used.  That means it’s quite a chore to dig them out as everything else has to come out in order to reach them. Lucky for me Coleen is so flexible and strong as she can fit into tight places.  We spent about an hour digging everything out, and then another hour putting it away. In between, we had the fun part of putting up the tree and decorations.

As our boat is fairly small, even a few decorations quickly make it look festive.  Our tree is tiny, but we have a few treasured ornaments from land days and few we’ve picked up since.  We have to tie the tree in place so it will stay upright during weather events, so we tied on a couple of skiing snowmen ornaments and joke that it’s a ski lift.  We had Christmas music playing on the satellite radio.  Unlucky for Prince, we found his Santa had and collar.  We finished the festivities with homemade pizza and a holiday movie. Well, it was National Lampoon’s Christmas 2 which barely qualifies as a movie. I mercifully fell asleep.

Christmas this year is going to be a bit of a challenge as there are few places to shop.  I can’t even imagine how I will find candy for the stockings, let alone presents.  It is simply too expensive to have things shipped in and pay the duty.  This will be a homemade Christmas for sure.  Then again, there are few things we need, and we don’t have room for a lot of stuff anyway, so all is good.
