I had the day off yesterday and decided to head over to Shell Island and spend a little time on the beach - plus I needed to rest and recuperate from too many late nights. I had an easy time raising anchor - even though I didn't have my first mate available to help. The wind direction was not conducive to sailing to Shell Island so I motored, which was ok as I needed to run the engine to charge the batteries anyway.
It was a nice ride and took only about an hour. I arrived around 11 a.m. I didn't want to head over to the beach until I was really sure my anchor was holding well - so I spent a little time doing chores, making a chicken quesadella for lunch, and taking a much needed nap before rtaking the dinghy to shore. I walked for a couple of hours, splashing in the water and generally having a wonderful time. I can't remember the last time I've been to the beach without a little one in tow. Although I miss her like crazy I will admit it is nice to have a break.
I even had a little swim and was chased by some tiny little biting fish. The bay side beach was crowded with motor boaters and jet skis, but the Gulf Beach was pretty much deserted. I stayed on shore for a few hours - and admit to enjoying being on land for a while.
I had a quick shower and was laying in the cockpit in my nightgown reading when believe it or not a boat pulled up alongside me. It was one of the fellows from the Panama City Marina. What are the chances? I sort of figured I had a little privacy --- good thing he hadn't shown up a few minutes earlier as he would have caught me drip drying. He hung out chatting for a few minutes. I then resumed my reading, sketched a little, and had a lite supper while watching the most amazing sunset.
