We're on our own again as DJ and Perseverance sailed away yesterday morning headed for some work in the Keys. The last few days were spent frantically trying to finish some projects on my boat and get Perseverance ready for her voyage. We hope to see DJ again sometime in January.
Coleen woke up early this morning to me shouting "Windows, windows!" A downpour was just starting and we had every window on the boat open. As we were rushing around madly trying to shut all 11 ports and 3 hatches at the same time, the wind kicked in and sent us rocking! It was quite the squall but only lasted for about 10 minutes, then blue skies and no wind. Time to open the ports and hatches again. It seems to be a game we play at least a couple of times a day lately. We're planning to stay in the Georgetown area until after the Cruising Regatta in early March. It's still really deserted here, with only 6 or 7 boats in the harbor. We expect boats to start trickling in starting in November and by Regatta time there may be 300 or more boats. Meanwhile, we're enjoying the quiet and having the place to ourselves. There are several beautiful anchorages in the harbor, each with a lovely beach. Today we are anchored a few hundred feet off of Hamburger Beach on Stocking Island. It used to be a really good beach bar, but closed last year due to the landlord skyrocketing the rent. Now the structures are still there, and the beach lounge chairs, but otherwise it's deserted. Works fine for us as we have it all to ourselves. There is a nice nature trail, and a trail to the ocean side beach, plus lots of causurina trees for shade. We'll be here a few more days before we scoot over to the town anchorage. |
