It was a great Mother's Day weekend. We spent most of Saturday running errands since this is the last weekend we'll have a car. I really don't like to shop but we had a list of necessities and powered our way through. The Boater's World is going out of business and we managed to get a new harness for Coleen ($9) and a Maptek chart kit covering the Keys and entire East coast of Florida ($60). I also went to Home Depot and got some things to make a bug screen from the companionway. So far we haven't been bothered too much - but I'm sure the time is coming. I took Coleen to see the Hannah Montana movie after lunch - and was she ever excited. She still hasn't stopped talking about it :-)
On Mother's Day we got up early - made some yummy lemon muffins, threw our gear together, piled in the car and headed to Panama City Beach. Our early arrival secured a parking spot next the beach and across from Pier Park. We spent the whole morning playing on the beach and then headed over to explore Pier Park. We enjoyed looking through the shops - although we didn't buy anything.
We had lunch at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. The food was very good and they even had complimentary mimosas for the mommies. The margaritas weren't bad either :-) We took one for the road and headed back to the beach. Coleen and I played in the surf for hours. The water was clear, warm and the waves were huge. I finally got exhausted and she thankfully found some children to play with while I rested.
Early in the evening we walked a mile down the beach to Sharky's and had a lite supper. I had the worst $9 pina colada ever made - that was the day's only disappointment. Poor Coleen was so tired at that point she almost couldn't make the mile walk back. I was pretty tired too and when we finally made it we collapsed on our beach blanket and enjoyed the beautiful sunset.
